On the manufacturing level a fiber glass mat is fed into a fabrication line. The fiber glass mat passes through a saturator tank filled with hot asphalt which coats the fibers. Colored ceramic-coated mineral granules placed on the top of the shingle (this is the appearance side) to protect them from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and create the coloration of the product. The back side of the shingle receives a thin coating referred to sometimes as the mineral backer with sand or slag fines; this backer is designed to keep the shingles from sticking to one another while packaged and on the way to your project.

No!  Most certainly not . . . All shingle manufactures do not use the same quality of granules, asphalt, mineral backing or sealant strips during the manufacturing process.   Some shingles are made with SBS polymers that provide extreme weathering durability.  Others are impregnated with specialized granules that provide solar reflectivity and radiate heat!  Beyond this we have the design of the shingles creating unique patterns depending on the aesthetic you want to achieve.

This is a tough question as there are two major considerations that should be weighed.   Firstly, performance (or functionality) of the product; this is based upon multiple factors and can vary from project to project.  Secondly, color and product design.  The aesthetic question!  How will the shingle look on my house?  You’ll find list of the most popular shingles here, with many other available.  Please view our extensive galleries for more pictures.

Yes! Would you purchase a brand new vehicle or other large manufactured product from a source that is not accredited, trained or offers any post installation support?

Most professional roofing firms will only offer installations with these types of warranties.  Commonly referred to as “Non-Prorated Warranties” or “Manufacture Certified Installations” . . . it is important not to confuse manufacture material warranties with these enhanced warranty structures.  All materials will retain some manufacture warranty stating the materials will be free from defects.

The reason most professional roofing firms opt for these enhanced warranties is due to the standard of excellence we are held to!  Certified installations use only the best (no deviating or substituting generic products) materials and factory trained staff to achieve these installation standards.  When these stringent guidelines are met the manufacture will provide additional warranties against not only material defects but craftsmanship defects as well!

Always ask for credentials.   The lack or credentials is a major red flag as manufactures freely train and support companies with excellent track records.
